Our story

The story of Paratisipaja began in 2003, when the first thoughts about making candles began to swirl in my mind. The time seemed right to start my own company, and the original idea for the candle came from my mother Aija, who had founded Kustavin Savipaja at the time. There was no experience with candles or making them, but the enthusiasm was great. Now, after years of entrepreneurship and product development, I can admit that I founded the company, signed leases and negotiated the start-up money, before I had made a single candle in my life. I thought that it is definitely possible to learn if it has happened to others too 🙂

For the first years, we did our production in the center of Kustavi, and we had a small summer shop in the courtyard of Savipaja. The work was done terribly, and the positive feedback the products received encouraged and helped me to cope. For years, I lived and breathed candles, I went to fairs and got dealers, and there was a wonderful positive vibe about it.

In 2006, I started to feel that I would like to develop the operation further, and I wanted the production and the store under the same roof. The hope was to serve customers in a more versatile way, and to offer, in addition to candles, other products for home decoration. After many steps, we were able to open the doors of our new factory store in June 2008 (ie 2018 is our store's 10th anniversary!). Over the years, our factory store has become a popular destination for many, where you can of course find a lot of thoughtfully selected interior items and clothing in addition to our own candles and detergents.

The last 10 years have been interesting, busy and multifaceted. There have been many wonderful moments, successes and enthusiasms. There have been new designs and product families. A lot has been learned and new things have been done, and we tried to live with the moment. There has also been a recession and challenges in the time, which have surely touched many besides us.

I want to look ahead with curiosity and joy, and see what is still to come. As a new (or actually old) passion of mine, I have clothes, because of which everything nice will happen in the store... You should stay on the channel if you are interested in colorful and feminine clothes (also in plus size)! In terms of interior design, I always want to find something nice and new in our store, preferably something that is not available in every store. I go hunting for these beauties at fairs in Europe. Some of the products can be found in our online store, and some are such that you should visit us so they can find their way to your home.

And then those candles…

Here at Paratiispaja, we want to make good candles that help make people's everyday life sweeter, create atmosphere and sometimes also bring comfort to sadness. This has been the most important and most important thought, from which everything has started in time, and which thought is still in my mind when I watch a new batch of candles being finished in the moulds. I wonder who will light all these candles, and I hope that moment will be special.
